SAUDI ARABIA: Billed as Clash on the Dunes, the heavyweight rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr for the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight boxing world championships took place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al-Turaif in Riyadh. The client, Blink Experience and the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia, chose Creative Technology (CT) to supply video equipment for the event.
Four 63m2 LED screens were set up over the ring to provide a good view of the in-ring competition, regardless of where a spectator was standing in the arena. In addition, 336m2 of LEDs were wrapped around the truss tower legs supporting these screens, with each tower leg consisting of 84m2 outdoor LEDs. The front row and VIP areas were outfitted with four 36m2 LED screens and CT also supplied 13m2 of LED and four 84-inch Samsung TVs for the media centre and 43 43-inch TVs for the premium hospitality space.
For content management and playback, CT supplied four Hippotizer Boreal media servers. Two were used during the event and the other two for back-up. These were controlled with a linked Barco E2 and S3 system. ‘The Barco E2 and S3 systems were used due to their reliable screen management interface,’ commented Dhyaan Parikh, project manager at CT. ‘The whole workflow was in 4K, which consisted of our Lightware UBEX 4K fibre, Lightware 2.0 matrix, Novastar 4K LED processors and 2.1km of quad core fibre.’
