Since its inception in 2002, the TPi Awards has consistently grown in size and status. From the people behind Total Production International (TPi) magazine, the event is now regarded as the premier networking event for the live production industry. This year’s show welcomed hundreds of the industry’s finest and Green Hippo was there in force – as well as sponsoring an awards category, the event’s creative team used Hippotizer Media Servers to help control the stunning light show.
Green Hippo sponsored The Des Fallon Video Vision category with industry legend Richard Turner, aka the video scientist, receiving the award. Long recognised by his peers for his capability with large multi-screen technology and his methodical approach – hence, the scientist moniker – Richard’s career has included roles in corporate, exhibition, fashion, television, and theatre, as well as touring. Highlights include his extraordinary work with Roger Waters’ The Wall tour, for which he was globally recognised.
Tom Etra, Senior Technical Sales Manager at Green Hippo, was proud to present Richard with his award and the entire Green Hippo team was proud to know that Transition Video specified Hippotizer Media Servers to help deliver the TPi Awards 2019 show. It’s never an easy gig to ‘put on a show for those in the know’– talk about a tough crowd! – however Transition Video was secure in the knowledge the Green Hippo Hippotizer V4+ range is renowned for its real-time excellence and is the media server of choice for live events.
It was an honour to present Richard Turner with our award – he’s such a deserving winner. And I was really chuffed to know that Transition Video selected Hippotizer to help deliver the entertainment for one of our industry’s most prestigious events.

Of course, given the industry occasion, delivering the event’s entertainment was always going to be a somewhat pressure situation. Rhodri Shaw of Transition Video was the lucky guy looking after video and Green Hippo was more than happy to provide him with a pair of Taiga+ Media Servers. Recognised as a massively powerful, and hugely reliable, the Hippotizer Taiga+ joined a handsome collection of equipment and ensured that operator Jamie Baker had access to the level of real-time technical excellence required to impress a technically savvy audience.
In addition to the pair of Green Hippo Taiga+, Jamie’s set-up also included: three Rosendahl mif 4 professional midi Timecode interfaces; a CVD Reaper digital audio workstation; a custom Akai controller; and a lot(!) of ROE Visual LED screen. Quite a collection.
We used the timeline component extensively on this show, as everything was scripted it was easy to duplicate awards timelines and reinsert them with different media ensuring perfect consistency on playback. Using pin bridge and multi controller for the mapping of cues and certain specials aspects of the show really made this project a breeze.
